Question
Master Kosen,
Does Buddhism advocate the development of personality, in which the self would continually progress until "awakening," or does it aim to free us from the illusion of the self?
Basically, can the self be perfected, or is it only an illusion?
Thank you.

Answer from Master Kosen
The more we are able to let go of the ego, the more universal and vast it becomes. This is a contradiction we must embrace.
