A sudden understanding of awakening

Master Kosen – Published on December 14 – enlightenment

Question

Tozan had a sudden, innate understanding of awakening. He experienced sudden realization. After him, Sozan developed the theory of degrees, the Goi.
Your book addresses and updates this subject, which can give those who need them some reference points. In the sudden way, there are no more reference points; all directions instantly vanish, and so does the self. Do you think there is room today, in the world we live in, for this approach that somewhat destabilizes our habits and acquired knowledge? Do you also think that after realizing this sudden dimension that opens the realm of the heart, we can go backward, regress, or does it instead leave an indelible mark deep within our hearts? Thank you.

Answer from Master Kosen

Everything is sudden. The linear exists only in relation to our own consciousness. But the two cannot be separated.
Since the linear cannot exist apart from the sudden, it is actually random and therefore itself sudden. In other words, we can change our past, present, and future, and even our DNA.
