Maître Do Sei Labatte

Born in 1969 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At the age of 13, due to the sudden death of her elder sister, she eagerly searches for the meaning of being alive and existence, time, death, and how to experience life and take over the incredible possibility of consciousness. At 19, she walks into a dojo and practices zazen for the first time which moves her deeply, and so her practice begins. Being still and patient are really hard for her, but all the same, at age of 22, she requests the ordination of Bodhisattva to Meiho Missen Michel Bovey.
In Buenos Aires she takes part in the creation of the local dojo and in February 1992 she meets her master, Kosen. She becomes her disciple, secretary and translator. That year, during the first Summer Camp in Argentina, she receives the ordination of nun from her master in her motherland.

She follows Kosen to France, lives in his dojos, goes with him traveling and giving conferences to spread the transmitted teachings across Latin America. In 1994 she settles in Uruguay with the monk Riki Ko e gen, Philippe Girard, her partner and father-to-be of their daughter. Together they found the dojo of Montevideo, named “The Dragon’s Pearl” by Kosen. In 2001 they move to Buenos Aires and start practicing zazen in their garage at home, the news spreads quickly in the neighborhood, the place becomes crowded, and so it is that the dojo of Florida is born, currently a small temple in the outskirts of Buenos Aires. Since 2006, she lives in Capilla del Monte, the town near Shobogenji Temple which she helped develop. She translates Kosen’s book "The Five Stages of Awakening" from French to Spanish. Along with other monks, they spread Zen across Argentina and South America. In 2015 she receives the Shiho from master Kosen along with other three women, becoming the first Latinamerican woman in the Dharma Lineage.
