Question
Hello,
A question has concerned me for a long time: the possibility of evil.
How does Zen account for the existence of evil,
not stealing an apple, but truly monstrous acts
like those pedophiles commit against children,
which are deeply traumatizing and destructive?
The answer of free will or reincarnation does not seem
capable of justifying such acts.
Another question: can Zen help these children, or these children
once they have become adults,
rid themselves of the hatred passed on to them?
Thank you in advance for your answer.
Franc.
Answer from Master Kosen
Evil is not so far from good. What separates the two paths is not necessarily obvious at first. Then it becomes increasingly difficult to correct course.
The path of good is the one Christ taught. He gave all the guidance in simple phrases such as love your neighbor as yourself, love one another, and so on.
Love heals evil.
