When can a monk's solitude be unhealthy?

Master Kosen – Published on November 10 – self-and-others

Question

Hello, Master Kosen! Practicing zazen regularly creates a gulf between oneself and abnormal people. It would be easy to give up practice to avoid the problems arising from the fundamental changes zazen entails. Taking a position opposed to the dominant model is not easy without gradually moving away from society. “All this should happen naturally, automatically…” you will tell me? In what circumstances can a monk’s solitude be unhealthy? Gassho.
