What is true inner freedom?

Question

A few days ago I asked you three questions:

—What is true inner freedom?

—Slave?

—Freedom?

You welcomed me with thirty blows of the stick. Rensaku!!!! What a beautiful
lesson in compassion!

I take this opportunity to tell the person who asked “Jiki?” that
my email exchange with you was both a true mondo
and true kusen. The questions were asked spontaneously; the answers
shot forth like arrows striking the exact point. I shin den shin.

Thank you, Sensei, for speaking from your heart, without flattering
me, for speaking as a true friend speaks:
sometimes a good slap is better than hypocritical agreement. Thank you
again, mountain guide, for telling me: watch out! Look there beneath
your foot—a trap on the Way (when you say: beware of dogmatism).

When I say striking the point, I mean your answers touch the point that
can unravel things if I pull the thread, but I will speak of that through
other questions your answers have raised within me. First, I will
let your answers enter me and, as you tell me, pay attention to
how I formulate what zazen urges me to express and share.

I feel great compassion for you at this
moment, universal love, like a feeling of true freedom!

Sanpai Tai Gen Kosen!

I embrace you and love you.
