Question
This excerpt comes from Lao Tzu’s Tao:
Weakness overcomes strength;
suppleness overcomes hardness.
Everyone knows it, but no one manages to put it into practice.
Since Tao is similar to Zen, could you please shed light on the first sentence? I can discern its meaning, but it remains somewhat vague to me because of the word “weakness.”

Answer from Master Kosen
The word “weakness” is a rather poor translation; it is more a matter of gentleness.
