Question
Hello, Master. I have severe osteoarthritis in both knees (a family inheritance), which would seem to prevent me from practicing zazen. I have already tried: not only is the pain unbearable, but I cannot hold or even properly assume the posture. I am also a beginner on the Way, and for those two reasons I have not dared sign up at my city's Zen dojo. I have read that one can try a posture sitting on a chair... Could you enlighten me? Thank you in advance.

No, you are not the only one unable to do zazen, and rest assured, some people could assume the posture without difficulty but do not.
You see, the situation is not so hopeless. Everyone does what they have to do and what they can do. Now, if your life depended on it, I am certain you would manage,
even if only once.
