Question
Hello, I live in Rouen. I discovered Zen many years ago through traditional karate-do (in the sense that seeking the do was its purpose). Today I would like to begin practicing zazen seriously. The problem is that I am rather iconoclastic and have had many experiences in different fields, so the practice and rigid outlook of certain dojos put me off (as do the exorbitant prices of retreats). The only dojo in my city is Christian Espiau de Lamaestre’s (AZI). Should I sacrifice a few ideas in order to practice for technical reasons? Ideally, I would attend enough retreats with you, then gather a small group so we could progress together.

Christian is a longtime practitioner; this can give you a chance to practice in a dojo. You are welcome to practice with me, and later, if you truly think it appropriate to form your own group, we will see.
