Question
Help concerning, I think, the neurosis of “all you have/had/will have to do is
act as though you only needed to see yourself engaged in something…”—pretend
a little, basically.
I work in upstream oil operations (building platforms, etc.). I
think it is a wonderful profession, even if the environment and associated lifestyles
are, let us say, not really in line with the Dharma. Nevertheless, I have to
supervise and coordinate others and participate in impressive technical
achievements. But I cannot distinguish between what comes from a kind
of neurotic, selfish sense of adventure and what comes from human authenticity.
Above all, I feel that those around me (my bosses, most coworkers,
etc.) tend to take the easy way and are miles from asking themselves such
questions (which, of course, does not mean they have no good qualities).
Does changing one’s life seem to you something that must be considered at
some point to move forward, or does the Way remain possible for me despite
everything in this kind of environment and career (knowing that “sticking it out” is also
a way of doing things)?
Must we also know how to live “rooted” in one place?
Best regards,

I think we should avoid judging things and people as being in line with the Dharma or not.
