Staying awake

Question

For 24 years I lived in constant unease, feeling I did not belong to all this violence, the self-destruction of our planet, and of course our ruin… I was lost, alone even when surrounded by people, constantly asking how to be myself as a human being rather than an actor…
Then one day, without asking anything, without even believing in it, I Awakened, alone, all by myself… Without teaching, without knowledge, my essence was at peace…
Sadly, I abandoned it; I bent under the weight of those around me.

Though I shaved my hair and walked barefoot shouting that I had finally found myself, nothing helped…
Possessed by what and whom we possess, here I am again, stuck between a routine others accept from me and the rhythm of the universe I want to follow more than anything. The worst part is that I know it can begin only with me.
Here is my question: can we stay Awake among those who sleep?

Master Kosen’s answer

Everything is possible. Every state of awakening is impermanent, but awakening never disappears. It always remains behind our eyes, even when we contemplate illusion.
