Question

Hi there.
What would you say to a practitioner thinking of taking bodhisattva vows one of these days who steals much of his food from supermarkets?

Master Kosen’s answer

I would tell him to enjoy it while he has not yet received ordination and vowed not to steal anymore.
Mr. Carrefour will not be ruined by your act, but do not risk robbing yourself by thinking what you take does not belong to you by divine right and has not always been destined for you. So always give thanks for this food, and it will belong to you.
