Question
Hello, Master, I am Lucio. For some time I have been wondering how I can live
fully in the present. How can I enjoy every moment of
life? This point comes up very often in the teaching and learning of
zazen, and it is really what attracts me most. From the first time I heard it
until now, I have felt that this is the essence of life: living in the present
(and it sounds wonderful inside me). Thank you very much for your answer, dear
Master!
I would also like to ask another question. I do not understand what
humility is, what it means to be humble, and why “humility” is useless unless it is joined
with “courage.” These words, too, were engraved in my heart (just like
Living in the Present), and I still do not fully understand them, but I nevertheless feel
they are the Truth. Is that so, Master, or am I wrong? Once again, I thank
you with all my heart for your help, both what you offer me and what
you offer all humanity.
Thank you, Master!
Lucio
Answer from Master Kosen
You cannot grasp the mind of the present. That is humility.
