Is it really possible not to be in the present?

Question

We are often reminded to return to the present moment, as if we weren’t
there.

My question: Is it really possible not to be in the present?

I mean, if I am thinking about the future, I am presently thinking about the
future!

Answer from Master Kosen

Our consciousness wanders or is influenced by emotions to which we have long been attached. From this poorly digested past, it imagines uncertain futures over which we have no control. Even if a certain part of ourselves truly exists in the absolute present, our consciousness is rarely present there or aware of its eternity.
