How do I bring posture into breathing?

Master Kosen – Published on June 14 – posture

Question

Hello, Master. I am a beginner, and I am wondering about the sequence. How do I begin the Zen posture with breathing? Should I first try breathing through my nose? Then direct the breath toward my abdomen, or do both at the same time? Or perhaps let go without thinking too much?
As you have noticed, I am just starting out. Thank you for your answer. Irène.

Answer from Master Kosen

For a beginner, it is good to start by breathing naturally through the nose, letting breathing happen unconsciously.

Then, little by little, we concentrate only on the exhalation, which should be longer than the inhalation.

We exhale gently, almost imperceptibly, letting the energy move downward. Then, at the end of the exhalation,

we let the inhalation happen automatically.
