Question

Hello, Master,

Raised in the Catholic Church, I still feel very attached to its teachings and to the atmosphere of churches, which was part of my childhood. I have lived with my female partner for more than thirty years, and because of this I am totally rejected by the Church. But I cannot give up a spiritual life; it is absolutely fundamental to me. I only enter churches when they are empty, avoid priests, and don’t dare take Communion. In short, I am in great spiritual pain and feel as if I am in a void. A year ago, I came across books about Zen, then sought out more books and websites. I have read your answers to questions about homosexuality. Here is mine: Do you think we gay men and women have the same worth as other beings? In one of your videos, you recall Master Deshimaru’s phrase, “Follow the cosmic order.” Could that be a condemnation (yet another) of homosexuality? Thank you.

Answer from Master Kosen

There have always been all kinds of sensitivities and all kinds of love: men in women’s bodies or women in men’s bodies, hermaphrodites, mermaids, gods, demigods. Love in a heterosexual couple is not necessarily beautiful, but when love is beautiful, everyone always recognizes it because it radiates. Be proud to love, and love like a hero, and God will love you, and he will love those you love as you love them.
