Question
I paused over this remarkable phrase… I am struck by Zen’s ability to say so much in so few words. Might horizontality be the temporal, the conditioned? Verticality, the timeless, the unconditioned? The two are intimately connected, as the eyes and nose can be; the two dimensions form a complete being. If one of the two dimensions is missing, the being is disfigured.
Doesn’t Zen consist in rediscovering our vertical dimension? In being in harmony with our two dimensions?
Isn’t this a reminder of Linji’s person of no affairs?
Have a good day.
