What is the thief?

If the house is empty, this refers to the superficiality of people who try to understand reality by looking at others, chasing after outside phenomena, or fleeing them. They never take the time to turn inward and observe the mind. So the house is empty, occupied by no one. It is natural for squatters and thieves to occupy this empty house.
