The other day I learned that some AZI monks have received a double ordination. First from Master Deshimaru, and then from a Japanese master of the Soto Shu. Is this possible? If a monk ordains another monk, isn’t that for life? Doesn’t this undermine the authority of the first person who ordained him? Doesn’t it amount to treating his ordinations as illegitimate? I am a little dismayed… just when I had decided to be ordained, I go and come across this… Master Kosen, have you been ordained again? Do you believe in this practice too? Thank you very much.
