Can you give Dharma transmission and shiho to a monk who is not close to you?

Question

If I am not mistaken, shiho is given to a disciple when they receive Dharma transmission. Is that right, or am I mistaken???

Can you give Dharma transmission and shiho to a monk who is not close to you?? (By this I mean: if a monk has attained Awakening and has never been able to be near you except during sesshins, can he receive Dharma transmission and shiho?)

Dear Master, thank you in advance for the time you devote to all the
monks and non-monks who follow this Way, resolving our doubts!!!

Much love to you, Master, and to Barbara Kosen too!!!!!

Answer from Master Kosen

Hello, Javier:

Thank you for your question. There was a historical case involving Master Eno, the sixth Chinese patriarch, and the monk Yoka Daichi that has gone down in history as “the transmission of one night.” Later, Yoka Daichi wrote the Shodoka, or “Song of Immediate Satori.” They were both excellent, master and disciple.

Warm regards

Kosen
