An enormous amount of energy

Master Kosen – Published on November 23 – zazen

Question

I often have moments during the day when an enormous amount of energy fills my brain, body, and eyes, and I feel I am in the world and outside it, simply smiling.
It is very pleasant, even wonderful, but also frightening because I feel I am losing control of everything. Well, it is especially frightening afterward, because I wonder whether one day it will make me do something stupid that harms me. It also happens right after zazen, when everything
rises and my head is flooded with energy for a while. I have been told I need to stop sleeping, but I am fully conscious when it happens.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Master Kosen’s answer

Having a lot of energy is never bad, but you must circulate it. It is not good for too much to accumulate in one particular place.
Generally, simply focusing your attention on a certain area is enough for energy to follow. The best circuit is to bring it up from the kidneys to the top of the head, then down through the forehead and pituitary gland. From there it descends into the mouth. Swallow your saliva and bring it down toward the heart; from there it will descend to the abdomen on its own.
