Question
Perhaps it is out of ignorance, but I notice that although Zen says that what
matters is the practice of zazen, in and of itself, more traditional religious
forms soon appear (rituals, prayers, dogmas, exemplary models,
and so on). In your opinion, does Zen stand outside the institutionalization of
religions, or does it require these things? Can you fully practice Zen without being
a Mahayana Buddhist, in the same way that you practice yoga without being a Hindu?
Thank you. Carlos
