Question

I just read a question you were asked about the ego, to which
you ended your answer: “Without thoughts, no matter.”

Could you explain what you mean by the word thought? It
seems to me that before my own thoughts, the matter making up our world
already existed, regardless of me and all the thoughts I have developed
since birth.

Thank you for your patience.

P.S. I also wanted to thank you for the honor you do me in
hosting some of my works on your site.

Gassho.

Answer from Master Kosen

The Buddha says: ignorance causes the movements of thought.
Without intuition of form, where could it settle?

Scarcely has one sequence ceased when a new thought arises:
If it does not settle on form, from what object will it be born?
