Question
I would like this to be only a childish view on my part. Alas.
If the disciple often teaches the master, all disciples are masters and all masters are disciples.
So why so few shihos?
Thank you.

Answer from Master Kosen
In Deshimaru’s Zen, which I have always practiced and which is radically different from Sotoshu Zen, receiving shiho is very rare and very important.
Furthermore, the Buddha teaches that there are two modes of progress in Buddhism, both of which matter:
The sudden mode and the gradual mode.
One is instantaneous; the other takes time and maturation.
