Question
Here is my question: if here and now really exists, why do Zen masters spend much of their time saying, Master So-and-so used to say, or Master So-and-so said…? If they said it, why waste time saying it again, since it is the past? I heard you say something in a video that seemed full of common sense: what Sensei has to say, he says, even now. Why do so many people swoon over what Sensei said and repeat it like monkeys? Where is their actualization of Zen in this? Today, the only thing that interests me is what Kosen has to say to me… I too want to eat mushotoku… And I have another question, but I will ask when you are in front of me so I can see what is in your eyes at that moment.
See you soon, thank you.

Master Kosen’s answer
Master Menzan Zuiho says: you should be very clear that originally, the countless phenomena of this world and other worlds lie beyond the discriminating mind of limited beings.
Discrimination that is surely nothing other than calculation and categorization.
