Question
The Buddha taught that we have no self, yet compared with other creatures inhabiting this world, we have free will and can make simple or complicated choices. So who or what within us is able to make these choices and decisions?
I can certainly affirm that it is me, but what is this me?
What is it made of?
Is it personal?
Is it an energy? Where does it come from?
Where does the impulse that makes me choose this or that come from?
The question is fundamental to me, because not knowing who or what it is, I am extremely distrustful of what has power over me. Since I don't feel confident, I allow myself to do only the bare minimum in my life.
It works, but well...

It's simple. Place yourself somewhere well lit.
Close your eyes, and from inside your head, look at your eyelids.
Can you see them?
Well, the one who sees behind your eyelids is you.
