When I think of all the hours I still have to practice, I feel overwhelmed and it seems impossible. Does that create bad energy?

Question

I have been meditating for some years, but without Buddha’s instructions in mind. Several months ago I realized the potential in this meditation and began practicing as I had read about. I have never received formal instruction. I have been so happy with what is happening that I fear I will become complacent with my new happiness and satisfied with my ignorance. Is it essential to meditate for a certain length of time? I do about half an hour twice daily. On Sundays I extend it to an hour of sitting. This morning I was overwhelmed by the thought of the many hours stretching ahead, and it created an unpleasant sense of impossibility. I sat even though the urge to stop seemed palpable and undeniable. Is it advisable to grit my teeth and endure these things? Or am I creating a well of confused energy that will lead to further delusion? Thank you. I am enthralled by your music!

Master Kosen’s answer

Indeed, you are very confused; you are creating mental complications.
