What is Zen? I cannot stop thinking about what I should or should not do.

Question

Hello, I encountered Zen and heard what it is, but I do not understand. First, I heard it was a practice. Then I read it was following or counting breaths with a straight back. Then I heard it was nothing special, then something very special. Now I wish I had read nothing at all. I do not seem able to do anything with all this. But I do not seem about to give up either, perhaps because the rest of my life bores me so much. After counting breaths, someone said, “Counting breaths is not so important, but ask yourself ‘who’ is counting your breaths.” Now Zen has simply become as boring as every other part of my life. I had never thought about these things before, and now I cannot stop. What should I do? I have a very serious Zen sickness. I thought I should ask someone who knows.
Thank you.
