Question

What is Buddhism’s position on suicide?
A friend lost her husband this way, and I have been left with many questions about the situation.
I am Buddhist but have never faced this subject before.
Thank you.
Charlotte.

Master Kosen’s answer

Buddhism means shedding body-mind and discovering the unborn. Suicide therefore makes no sense from the perspective of this path, because if you have the courage to end your life, you can also find the courage to live. Never turn your back on a problem; face it fearlessly. Being alive or dead changes nothing.
