Question

What is a shravaka?

I read that it is a disciple who has understood the Four
Noble Truths, realized the unreality of the phenomenal world, and
entered a partial nirvana.

What exactly does partial nirvana mean?

Answer from Master Kosen

The shravaka is the listener, someone fortunate enough to hear the Buddha’s teaching but who has understood it only intellectually; their understanding is dogmatic. It is merely a philosophy; they cannot understand the truth for themselves.
