The thumbs in zazen?

Master Kosen – Published on January 14 – posture

Question

When I practice, sometimes when I bring my thumbs together in the mudra, I literally feel a circuit close and energy flow.

Should I pay no attention to my body and concentrate on letting go of body and mind? But it happens when I let go of everything.

It also happens that when I turn around it disappears. Crazy, isn’t it?

Answer from Master Kosen

It is completely normal for energy to flow through your thumbs. It is the energy of your own body concentrated in zazen. At the beginning of practice, you rely on the body’s posture to calm the mind, and then body and mind are together in unity, made of the same substance. Body and mind let go on their own when you are in a state of concentration, without willful effort.
