The position of the thumbs during zazen

Master Kosen – Published on October 11 – posture

Question

I have seen that in some other Zen traditions, the thumbs are placed one over the other. In Deshimaru’s Zen, we bring our two thumbs together. Is this really important? What does it mean?

Master Kosen’s answer

The exact position of the hands is very important and is taught in dojos.
