Question
The more I practice zazen, the more I realize how much what we might call "karmic components," karma, are physical things we can feel very strongly in the body. Even something abstract like pride or dualistic thoughts can be felt with incredible density; they compress the organs, and so on. I could almost assign them shapes, intensities, colors, sounds... I imagine these are the "festering impurities" the Buddha spoke of. Hence my question: is it absurd to think these are things we might be able to measure more or less scientifically in the future? It sounds a bit like Scientology, I know... They say karma is infinite, yet I clearly feel my illness will disappear when everything is released... And I clearly feel my body getting lighter over time... There it is. Perhaps this is a rather rational question, but anyway...
