Question
Master Kosen, I have a degenerative illness that paralyzes my neck, trapezius muscles, arms, hands, and fingers. My pelvis, legs, and feet are gradually becoming paralyzed too. Sometimes the paralysis is less severe, but it will continue to deteriorate.
Until now, I have been able to sit in zazen on a zafu and take the posture, but I am reaching the point where it is sometimes becoming impossible.
However, I can sit in a chair, but I cannot push against the floor with my feet, only rest them on it.
Please tell me how to practice zazen in a chair. And when I cannot practice in a chair and remain lying down for days at a time, tell me how to practice lying down, because I have heard of a master paralyzed in bed who continues zazen in bed, but I do not know
his name, where he is, or how to contact him.
