Tears in zazen

Master Kosen – Published on March 29 – zazen

Question

When I practice zazen, I very often find tears flowing. Sometimes this turns into prolonged sobbing. I do not understand why; I am not thinking of anything in particular (or at least I am unaware of it), and I cannot find a source to heal this feeling of anguish.
Why does this happen to me? Should I pay attention and start looking for where these sobs come from?
Thank you.

Answer from Master Kosen

The long sobs of autumn's violins wound my heart with monotonous languor.

Paul Verlaine

Now that is Zen. Long live de Gaulle, long live France.

There is a therapy that consists of crying freely. Zazen often releases our deep emotions. Let them express themselves if it does not disturb anyone; do not hold back.
