Suffering at work

Question

At work I am belittled by a group of three people called the “management team,” dishonest to varying degrees, who think they know everything and want to direct everything in a home for children and adolescents with mild intellectual disabilities and associated behavioral disorders. All of us—the care team, teaching staff, support services, and myself as psychologist—suffer to varying degrees from this situation.

I have ended up thinking it best not to retaliate, to stay silent and let them talk without saying anything, at least until we find a better solution. For now I do not see one. Thank you for helping us find one. Andrée.

Master Kosen’s answer

In a work group, everyone must find their place and clearly understand their role. A management team is supposed, first of all, to organize the community so each part has the best conditions to perform its task as effectively as possible. It must build everyone’s confidence and ensure no part ever interferes negatively with overall functioning.

Yet from what you describe, the management team is incompetent and obstructs the group’s functioning. Probably because it resists making the effort its role demands and prefers giving in to the easy option of sterile authoritarianism without any valid strategy—a way of spending its time in destructive idleness while pretending to do its job.

They are the ones posing a great danger to this organization, and you should urgently notify those who hired them.
