Should we heal someone who is not sick?

Master Kosen – Published on April 1 – health

Question

You told Bruce Rose that Zen practice was reserved for healthy people. Forgive me, but I thought Zen healed. Should we heal someone who is not sick? Are you a Zen monk, or the spokesman for a new extremist branch called “Satori for the healthy!”? Did it not occur to you for one second that Mr. Bruce Rose might be suffering from a serious illness? If you could not comfort this man, you are like an okami to your fellow human being. That aside, it is true that life is a sexually transmitted disease that is always fatal.

Answer from Master Kosen

Indeed, not only must you be healthy to practice zazen, but you must also expect nothing from it. So there is no problem for those who cannot practice because of their poor health, since there is nothing to gain from Zen.
