Question
“Total crap.”
What is crap? The Lotus Sutra, Nichiren Buddhism, mantras? Is there no salvation outside zazen?

Master Kosen’s answer
The Nichiren sect, the epitome of a fascist, totalitarian sect, and also being stupid enough to believe that reciting a sutra’s title will change anything deeply. It is childish and stupefying, primitive superstition. As for the Lotus Sutra, it may be, along with the Prajnaparamita, Buddhism’s most important sutra. But reading it is not enough; its meaning and essence must be illuminated and transmitted to you by a competent master.
