Question

My life seems absurd despite everything I do to fill
and organize it. I am afraid of awakening… Everything can be so empty and icy…

Answer from Master Kosen

Many people mistakenly think awakening is an individual achievement. The dimension of Buddha for oneself is far from the most remarkable, so much so that it is defined as dangerous and potentially harmful to realizing the true dimension of universal Buddhism.
True awakening is unspeakable joy and love, and it ends loneliness and isolation by connecting us to the spirit. Jesus called it the Holy Spirit. That is exactly it.
