Question
You said in a video, I think, that the destiny of
humanity is the destiny of the bodhisattva, I think, or I don’t remember. Who is
the bodhisattva? How do we recognize him? What does that sentence mean? Where
does life come from? How can the soul choose to experience? I no longer
know where I stand. There are ups and downs. When things go well, we tell
others to fight; when things go badly, we no longer know. It is easy
to say life is beautiful, this and that, all right, but sometimes we
feel the earth has it in for us, everything is against us, someone
is trying to bring us down, we must follow the Way, this and that, all right. Is
one path in life better than another? I no longer know what I should
do or where the path truly is. There is also the question of
causality, of cause and effect. We cannot just say, there, I chose this
path; partly yes, but not only that.
I don’t know if there is an answer to all this gibberish, but I
wanted to unburden myself and share my anxieties. That’s not cool, you will say,
and surely it is up to me to find the answer. Then there are psychics who
predict things, and they seem to happen exactly that way. I don’t
want a path laid out by cards, damn it! I don’t understand anything. I am going
to crack at this rate. You also say we must pass through multiple
dimensions, that there are several hells and all that. I don’t know anymore. Is there
really divine justice? I don’t know anymore! I feel I am
stuck in a world with no way out, no end, no joy, where
everything ends in sadness. Of course I have good moments too, but
looking closely, I don’t know. We often have conflicts and realize
we lose people, sometimes through arguments or losing loved
ones. Even if we find them again in the afterlife, or must start
another life, I will end up crazy. I understand nothing, and this life annoys me,
I say it very frankly. I understand nothing, and I am not the one who suffers most,
except that I understand nothing, and I understand nothing, and I suffer myself
without knowing why.

Master Kosen’s answer
You must recover your refuge, your invulnerability, your peace, your happiness, your freedom, and everything, everything, everything you are searching for God knows where and God knows how.
I do mean find, not search, because in reality you never lost it, since it is precisely you.
But if you believe you are your emotions, whining as they tell you the pitiful story of your life, you are mistaken. Emotions are useful, of course, but not for that. If you believe you are your thoughts and will find a coherent answer through thought, you are mistaken again. Thinking has its uses, but not that one.
You are only and simply the silent observer behind your eyes. That is where your refuge is; that is where your happiness is.
You are your own guardian angel, and from him, from yourself, you will love yourself and make yourself happy right away, whatever happens. The world can collapse; you have absolutely nothing to fear.
Try experiencing what I am telling you and returning to your observer.
That is my Christmas gift.
