Question
At the beginning of my practice, I resisted it a great deal. It runs counter to our Western patterns. But through a lot of (non)effort, I managed to sit in very deep meditation. This affected my dreams. They were real, and I controlled them. Sleep seemed simply another state of mind: I knew I was dreaming and could interact intelligently with those I met in my dreams. In fact, I passed through various layers of my active brain and managed to distinguish my ego from my true self. The difference was clear and needed no definitions or explanations. My ego seemed an evolutionary necessity given to our enormous, ever-demanding brains, necessary for survival. Soon afterward, I felt a kind of isolation of the mind. My brain and body separated, and my mind seemed to float above my body, which took on strange dimensions—I could feel through the floors beneath me, for example. I could feel astonishing energy within me, which disappeared as soon as I noticed it. It was like electricity passing through my body. (…)
I wonder what happened to me. Is this kind of experience typical?
