Question

Good morning, Barbara. I practice at an AZI dojo in Alicante. Is there no group from your association in Alicante? How does your association differ from the AZI? Thank you for your answer. Gassho. Jesús

Answer from Master Kosen

Dear Jesús:

Thank you for your question. I believe I am fully part of the AZI, because I am very faithful to the teaching Master Deshimaru gave all his disciples: Zen is zazen. The differences then arose from the characters of the senior disciples—I mean, from the way they teach it. Ultimately, these are temporary differences. It is not that one person is right and another wrong. Everyone tries to do the best they can, and personality gets in the way. For my part, I preferred to step back a little from the succession disputes. What matters is that it continues, and masters are merely tools of the Dharma. But it is fine this way: you new disciples can choose what suits you best.

Best regards,

Kosen
