Question
Headbutt

My interpretation: to me, Zidane’s headbutt was a magnificent way to leave, as a free man, the world of soccer to which he had given everything. Out of passion for the sport, of course, but you also have to put up with all the political bullshit, compromises, and money that make up soccer’s underbelly. To me, he left as a free man who takes sole responsibility for his destiny and defends his honor alone, face-to-face.
Of course, you will tell me it was wrong. That is what everyone says, what you have to say on television, because what comes first is defending security and compromise rather than freedom and honor.
I’m telling you, quite a few French people wanted to deliver that headbutt. Why do you think the team looked so tired during some games? They are like the rest of us; they too feel that heaviness and fatigue. And it was for all of us that Zizou played, scored, won, and decided to end his career in that precise way—not just to speak out against that little racist shit, but also against all those who bust our balls year after year with their repeated subliminal messages, for the security of their money and their cops.
Liberty, equality, fraternity.
But there is less and less liberty, especially the freedom to think for yourself.
Equality? A very distant memory.
And fraternity? Fuck, you feel so alone in this country.
Fortunately, there is Zizou, the real deal, a true brother who makes us want to be French again, with our true values. Yet he, as Materazzi puts it, is just a fucking Muslim and a filthy terrorist!
Okay, we did not get the cup; the wops got it. What a wonderful symbol: the most corrupt country in soccer got the object everyone coveted. Okay, but the Grail, the spirit, the magic, the message of this World Cup came through France and through Master ZIDANE.
