Question
Apart from Deshimaru and the great Zen masters, have you been deeply
touched by other sages, living or dead, from other traditions (or outside
all traditions!)?
Tender gratitude.

Answer from Master Kosen
Of course. I have actually been exceptionally lucky in this regard. I have always had the good fortune to encounter great traditions and very great masters, powerful enough to bring me to my knees. Although Master Deshimaru is the one who saved me and educated me, he is not the only one who helped me evolve. He told me that after receiving shiho I should go see other traditions and compare them, which I did. This allowed me, and still allows me, to understand what is distinctive about authentic Zen teaching, as well as the pitfalls one can fall into within that very teaching.
I am still a disciple today, and I thank heaven for sending me such great teachers and giving me such great treasures, such wonderful knowledge. To this day, I continue to strive along the way of the masters with the fervor of a beginner.
