Question

To respond to your answer, it depends on what we mean by “consciousness.” In my view there are several levels of consciousness. I do not dispute that matter is mind and vice versa, including ethereal matter and the formless. Everything is mind and matter. Consciousness is part of that too. As for the soul in theistic religions, we need not necessarily see it as an ego seeking reassurance or projecting itself into this notion to be saved. Even in the Bardo Thodol of Tibetan Buddhism, there is indeed a continuity of consciousness after death that may be completely veiled and lost in a mass of the mind’s own projections, driven by karma. There is also advice on trying to retain consciousness by realizing these are all projections, in order to be liberated. It is the same with our thoughts in life. How else can we explain near-death experiences with a flat EEG? In your view, what travels after death? Mind without consciousness? (Since, in your opinion, the brain produces consciousness.)
