Distinguishing the practices of the Japanese Rinzai and Soto schools

Question

Congratulations on your website, which I visit regularly.

My question is certainly meaningless: what should we do with koans in Soto
Zen other than desire to transcend them? Can you help me
distinguish how the Japanese Rinzai and Soto schools practice
with koans, please, Master KOSEN!

Master Kosen’s answer

There is no difference between Soto and Rinzai; there are good masters and bad masters.
The koan must remain alive and authentic, never systematic.
