Contrary to what one might think, the worst thing is not physical addiction but mental addiction. We are dependent on many mental drugs worse than heroin or tobacco.
Even eating can be an addiction in our relationships with others.
There is often addiction and a desire to make others dependent on us.
Being both dependent and selfish is a sign that we are in a state of mental intoxication, and this is obviously the main scourge of our society.
