A follow-up question to an answer

Question

I asked how to know whether I love, and you answered that I might as well ask whether I really liked certain consumer products. I concluded that sometimes we let ourselves be carried away by trivial desires instead of valuing more important things, like our partner. Your answer makes me think of comparing a cockroach and an elephant. My question is: how can I know whether I love this elephant or should look for another one instead?

I must also tell you that my romantic relationship with my girlfriend has practically ended, and I experienced it very coldly. I am processing the breakup, but on certain nights like tonight I ask myself: why was I born? How can I answer that question?

I tell myself I am here to make music, to make films, and to help make visible the injustices taking place in a country as unjust and full of pain as Colombia. I also think I am here to let some people know how others live, with their joys and sorrows—a kind of mediator between people. I want to know whether this is merely my desire or my mission in life, and whether I should follow a universal order or simply do what I want, and whether doing what I want simply amounts to following the universal order.

In the midst of all this, I wonder whether I can do all that without my ex-girlfriend. I think I cannot, but I do not know whether that is frustration and sadness about the future or a warning.

I am not looking to you for technical truths, only for guidance so I do not fall asleep but instead keep moving forward.

Thank you in advance for understanding my dilemmas, though they may be very childish.
