QUESTION (resumed) :

How to do one's best ?

QUESTION (original) :

Dear Master Kosen,
I am told that while practicing zazen, I should not let myself get frustrated if my practice is not what I want it to be. My practice is what it is, and I should not pollute it with my own goals and strivings. How can I distinguish between this way of practicing, and simply caring too little about the way I practice? Doing my best seems to imply a certain caring about what I achieve, but apparently this is not how I should go about. Or is it? Thanks in advance for your answer! Kind regards, Eric Rietzschel

ANSWER :

Do your best without expecting anything, it is an essential point in zen.
