Taiso Eka

The twenty-ninth patriarch, [China's Second Patriarch,] Great Master T'ai-tsu [Hui-k'o] studied with the twenty-eighth patriarch and served him. One day, he said to the Patriarch, "I have already put an end to all conditions." The Patriarch asked, "Doesn't that result in death?" The master replied, "It does not result-in death." "What is your proof?" asked the Patriarch. "I am always clearly aware. Therefore, words are inadequate," said the master. The Patriarch said, "This is the Mind substance realized by all Buddhas. Have no doubt."
